My mum informs me that the first time she realised I had an affinity for photography was when she asked me to take a photo of my family in front of the Arc de Triumph in Paris when I was 8. As it turns out I was somehow able to naturally compose the image, lining up both family members and national landmark in the frame, but I suppose the more important question to consider is, why didn’t she want me in the family photo in the first place?
Ever since, I’ve been on a quest to learn, improve and upgrade – something that persists to this day. My passion for photography was founded in line with my two other passions – travel and animals, but once I realised that I wanted to make photography my career, I turned to weddings, and haven’t looked back since. There is no finer privilege in my eyes than being asked to document someone’s special day and I take great pride in providing a quality service to my clients.
As a documentary wedding photographer, I like to be in the background – just think of me as a 6ft 3in fly on the wall…actually don’t, that’s terrifying. What I mean to say is that I won’t whisk you away for hours, or direct you too much. I’ll simply take photos as I see moments unfold and if I see a great opportunity that needs a tiny bit of direction, then I’ll quickly guide you.
That said, I’m not so far in the background that I’m lurking in the shadows. I try to make everyone feel comfortable and at ease with me being there – I think my laid back and generally pleasant nature help with this. There’s nothing worse than people feeling uncomfortable – tension and anxiety are immediately transparent in photos!
Outside of photography, I live with my wonderful wife in Ely, Cambridgeshire and if I’m not playing some sort of sport, then we can probably be found rambling through the fens, enjoying a pint or two, or attempting to grow some vegetables in the garden (last year we hand-reared 1 runner bean and very nearly one tomato!).
So in conclusion, I love photography. I hope that emanates through my images and I hope you enjoy them! If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and thanks so much for taking the time to look through my site!
