Finding the Funny
30th June 2019
Weddings are a great day. In almost all cases, you see every form of positive emotion (and sometimes the negative!) in less than 24 hours.
Showing this amount of concentrated emotion comes very unnaturally for most British people, but for 1 day it forces it's way out - whether it's a few words of encouragement from the Father of the Bride in the corridor, the team of Bridesmaids and Groomsmen compassionately doing everything they can to ensure the couple have the least stress possible in the lead up to the ceremony, or the groom uncharacteristically bearing his soul infront of a room of 100 people.
The great thing about being a documentary wedding photographer is that you get to capture those instances in their rawest form. There's no posing, no interrupting, it's just fleeting moments happening, immortalised by the camera.
Arguably, the best type of 'moment' is the one that makes you laugh out loud. It gives me great pleasure to think of newlyweds sitting down and looking at their photos for the first time, and amongst the many 'aaah' moments, they'll come across a photo of something they had forgotten about or perhaps hadn't seen during the day that will make them chuckle.
I love being able to capture a funny moment and of course a huge part of that is being in the right place at the right time, and always having the camera primed, as you don't get much time to get the shot, but when you get that shot, and you find it's composed and exposed well and in focus, then it's a great day to be a wedding photographer!
